Who We Are

The Manistee County Community Foundation (MCCF) is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Manistee County region – today and in the future.  Established in 1987, the foundation provides leadership to achieve community change, makes grants that address local needs, and builds community endowment.

What We Do

The Manistee County Community Foundation is the only entity serving Manistee County that impacts all aspects of life – youth, education, the arts, environment, human services, economic development, and more. We administer more than 90 funds totaling almost $4 million in community assets, proudly awarding $1.5 million in grants over our history to support areas of need.

Achievements

The Manistee County Community Foundation is an organization essential to building a community where people want to live, work and play. Perhaps equally important to our financial impact is our track record in leading community impact.  For example, the Foundation spearheaded the county’s first visioning effort, Envision Manistee County; plays a key role in the Explore the Shores program to make our county’s waters accessible to all people; and administers Launch Manistee, a cradle-to-career educational initiative to ensure the success of Manistee County students.

Operating Principles

In meeting community needs, the Manistee County Community Foundation adheres to the following operating principles:

  • To respect the stated charitable intent of all donors.
  • To emphasize and promote a long-term perspective toward community betterment and flexibility to meet immediate needs with an emphasis on the nonprofit sector.
  • To reflect in Foundation activities, and in Board membership, the diversity of community issues.
  • To maintain independence, integrity, and objectivity in Foundation pursuits.
  • To emphasize a proactive posture and to focus on the prevention of problems, as well as on their cure.
