Manistee Homelessness Prevention Fund

Field of Interest

The Manistee County Homelessness Prevention Fund was created in an effort to eradicate homelessness in Manistee County. An initial grant of $10,000 through the Michigan State Housing Authority for homelessness prevention was available to Manistee County in 2005, provided that the community could match the state grant.

With over 100 people homeless daily in Manistee County, a network of agencies quickly went to work to raise the necessary funds. The result was a total of $20,425 contributed through grants and individual donations. Of that sum, $15,000 was immediately allocated to help prevent homelessness in Manistee County.  The remaining $5,425 was dedicated to the establishment of the Manistee County Homeless Prevention Endowment Fund. Grants from this Fund target programs and services that address the root causes of homelessness in Manistee County.
