Bill Seng Memorial

Donor Advised

The Bill Seng Memorial Fund was established in Bill's memory by his family: his wife Ruth; his daughter Wendy; and his sons Ed and Jeff, and their families. As a founding member of the Manistee County Community Foundation in 1986, Bill served three years as President of the Board of Directors. The Bill Seng Memorial Fund supports youth and education programs that maximize immediate positive impact on young people in our community. To honor Bill's memory, the Seng family also donated a community park at the west end of River Street in downtown Manistee.  The park contains a stone monument which commemorates past Foundation donors.

Bill was born in 1936 in Muskegon, Michigan.  He married Ruth Skocelas in 1956 and they moved to Manistee to start their own business.  He created Seng Crane and Excavating as well as the Seng Marina.  Bill's success as a "handshake" businessman was well respected in the community.

Business, however, was only a part of his life; community service was the other.  Bill was the person to call on when the tasks seemed impossible.  For instance, when faced with the challenge of moving a decorated 40-foot Christmas tree pulled by four Belgian draft horses down River Street for the Victorian Sleighbell parade, Bill and crew built a huge sleigh that could accommodate any type of weather! Bill was active in many other community functions as well as helping to build the bandstand along the Manistee River.

Bill's legacy of giving and commitment to his community continue today, and will last far into the future, through grants awarded from the Bill Seng Memorial Fund.
