Grant Priorities

What are the Funding Areas of Interest?

The Board of Directors believes that with limited competitive funds, it is necessary to prioritize where funds can be best targeted to have the greatest impact on the needs and growth of the community.

In 2006, Manistee County completed its first ever visioning effort, Envision Manistee County – a 16-month effort that involved over 700 participants to develop visions and strategies for the County’s future. The Foundation Board utilizes the recommendations of the Envision Manistee County process in determining grant priorities.

Major grant and program areas of interest include the six quality of life categories that were used to organize the Envision Manistee County initiative including:

  • Arts, Culture & Humanities
  • Economy & Employment
  • Government & Infrastructure
  • Health & Human Services
  • Environment & Recreation
  • Youth & Education

Emerging Community Needs

The Foundation recognizes that standard grant making categories do not always encompass all community needs. The Distribution Committee and focused grant committees will to the extent appropriate and possible, accommodate other requests that address important or emerging community issues.
